Inbox Paint

Color rules for Gmail. Point at an email, click Color emails like this…, and every similar email stands out: clients in blue, invoices in orange, unread in red.

See it in action. The mail shown is made up. No sound.

What it does

Common questions

Colors are not showing.
Open Inbox Paint from the toolbar. The status panel says whether it is working. If you installed it while Gmail was open, reload that Gmail tab once.
Some emails are not colored.
Rules run top to bottom and the first match wins. The rule editor shows how many visible conversations match, and how many a higher rule takes instead, with a one-click “Put this rule above”.
It says “Gmail layout not recognized”.
Google changed Gmail and Inbox Paint can't read the list safely, so it stopped coloring instead of guessing. Gmail looks as normal. An update will fix it.
I want Gmail's own look back.
Use the switch at the top of the Inbox Paint window. Gmail looks exactly as before.
Does it read or send my email?
It reads what the Gmail list already shows (sender, subject, preview, labels, unread and starred), only on mail.google.com, only to decide colors. It never opens emails and nothing leaves your browser. See the privacy policy.
Is it free?
Everything is unlocked during early access. If a paid plan comes later, early users keep what they have.
