Inbox Paint privacy policy

Last updated: 18 September 2026

Inbox Paint is a Chrome extension that colors email rows in Gmail (mail.google.com) based on rules you create. The short version: everything stays in your browser, and your email is never changed.

What the extension reads

To decide colors, Inbox Paint reads what Gmail already shows in its email list:

It also reads your own address from Gmail's account button, so a rule never treats you as the sender of a thread you replied to. It reads all of this only on mail.google.com, only in your browser, and only to apply your color rules. It does not open emails and does not read email bodies.

What the extension stores

What the extension sends

Nothing. The extension makes no network requests. It has no server, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no third-party code. Email content, addresses, labels and rules never leave your browser. Settings you choose to export are saved as a file on your computer.

What the extension changes

Only how rows look on mail.google.com, inside your browser. It never modifies your mailbox: it doesn't open, move, label, archive, delete, mark read or unread, star or send email. It does not use the Gmail API and never asks you to sign in. Turning Inbox Paint off or removing it restores Gmail's own appearance.

Permissions

Several Google accounts

Your rules apply to every Gmail account you open in the same Chrome profile. What Inbox Paint reads from one account's list is used only on that page and never stored, so nothing passes from one account to another.

Diagnostics

Diagnostics you choose to copy from Settings contain counts, versions and on/off flags only. They never contain senders, addresses, subjects, previews or label names.

Selling and sharing data

We do not sell, share or transfer any user data. We do not use data for advertising, creditworthiness or any purpose other than coloring your inbox.

Removing your data

Settings → Reset everything deletes your rules, palette and preferences. Uninstalling the extension removes everything it stored on your device. Chrome may keep synced settings in your Chrome sync data until you reset them or clear Chrome sync.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new date. A future feature that needs any data to leave your browser will be off by default and will ask for your permission first.
